Local nature photographer, Jason Hahn, receives national honor
Land O' Lakes, Fla, October 2, 2006: "In Mom's Shadow" by Jason Hahn has been selected as a Top Ten Showcase Image for 2007 by the North American Nature Photography Association.
Each year the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) sponsors the “NANPA Showcase” competition, selecting the best nature photography from throughout North America. The judges look for the most creative, original, and skilled images that NANPA members have captured, and select the top 100 of these images to be in the annual NANPA Showcase. Of these, the top ten are selected for special recognition and prizes.
This year, three photos by local professional nature photographer Jason Hahn have been selected as part of the top 100. One of which, "In Mom's Shadow – Sandhill Crane and Chick", is a top 10 award winner. Also selected in the top 100, are "Dragonfly on Heliconia" and "Splash of Color - Roseate Spoonbill". Awards will be presented at a special multimedia presentation during the annual NANPA conference in Palm Springs, California in January 2007.
Jason Hahn is located in Land O' Lakes, FL. His work can be seen on his website, www.jasonhahn.com, and on display locally at Alexandria Art Gallery in Land O’ Lakes.
"Messages From Home" Project About the "Messages from Home" Project Working in conjunction with nature photographer and gallery member Jason Hahn, we came up with the "Messages from Home" project, large thank you cards for our community to send messages of support to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces serving overseas. The front of the card features my photo "Indivisible", our national symbol, an American Bald Eagle in front of an American Flag backdrop. Each 11 x 14 bi-fold card is blank inside, to provide space for messages of thanks and support. The cards are placed at businesses throughout Central Pasco and New Tampa communities for the public to see and send their messages.
Sponsorship A number of local businesses have stepped forward to help us with this project, including Heritage Bank of Florida which donated the funds needed to cover the costs of printing the first 50 cards. We also have sponsors for individual cards, whose $25 contributions pay for the costs of sending the cards overseas. If you are interested in sponsoring a card please contact Alexandria Art Gallery at (813) 948-4447.
Prints A series of prints, notecards, and bookmarks featuring "Indivisible". A portion of the proceeds from the sales of these items will benefit the National Military Family Association's "Military Family Fund". Any funds donated beyond the costs of printing and sending the "Messages from Home" cards will also be donated to the "Military Family Fund".
What this is all about... Please take a moment to write a message and sign one of these cards. Your words will mean a lot to someone who is far from home. Dates and locations where you can sign a card are listed below.
Remember this is not about politics or whether you are for or against the war, so please don't send us any hate mail.
This is about people!
Someones son, daughter, husband, wife, father, mother, or neighbor, who is far from home, making sacrifices we can only imagine. We just want to send a message from home to let them know we have not forgotten them and we hope they come home safe and soon!
